7 weeks at 7b

Well, finally it's half tem and I can spend some real time with my studio. It's all set up now and I've bene trying to go in at weekends and once or twice during the week, although school has rather got in the way. It's still fairly quiet dispite all the studios being let...can't work out if this is because I'm going 'out of hours' as it were, or if it'll just be a gradual migration.
Paintings are underway, plus some fiddling with monoprint (my new fave after painting...and felt) - have spend quite a while with some of them now so at least one is in its finished state:) Also managed to precure a notice board so have an image collection growing for inspiration.

Paintings (no titles...or working titles) include...
Corn babies
Girl with a crown
Anton
Matilda
Fiona flower

Studio 7b: Work in Progress

Spent the weekend painting out the studio to create a blank canvas...ceiling leaves much to be desired but am rather enjoying the (slightly rotten) wooden floor, a great improvement on stick...two to the left...and patchy...other end:) also met some of the new residents, and had a nose at some of the other spaces. Very excited to get in there and PAINT! ...a bit of work to do yet tho...

Studio 7b

So...after visiting the new studio spaces at Commercial Square Studios on Monday, I have been waiting to hear back as to whether I am 'suitable' to take up residence. I have to confess, I was rather seduced by the charm of the warehouse buildings, previously occupied by an upholstery company. The transformation of the existing studios is spectacular...light, vivid, and some with the seductive smell of oil paint and linseed hitting you as you pass over the threshold. Patricia was sparkly, currently the keeper of the keys (though she will not be involved with the new group she says). The spaces themselves are deep and look on housing behind. They are a blank canvas as such, and interfered with my sleep over the last week as I imagine where my paintings would hang. Last night a voicemail (I missed the call of course) informed me that I could be the new tenant of Studio 7b:) I always knew seven was my lucky number...

Corn Babies

Work in progress (Summer 2010)
Detail (left)
Detail (right)
New painting (in progress)...working title 'Corn Babies'. I am still in the process of layering the clothing and background as green can be a bit overpowering. Very happy with the mischievous fairies peeking through...

Summer

Summer is always a time for catching up with the paintings which have been in my head. Unfortunately I now find myself more than half way through and only one has emerged (although I do really like it at the moment) - it's currently propped up in the corridor, attracting cat hairs while the oil dries. Hopefully I will be able to stick to my good intentions for this coming term and keep making:)  in the mean time I will continue to collect, and imagine the lovely paintings I should be making...and try and find space for more canvases...pending the studio investigation later this month. Fingers crossed. x
